Sihanoukville
When it comes to Cambodia, everyone will think of majestic temples and the Angkor complex with unique architecture. However, did you know there is also an extremely interesting destination in Cambodia - which is Sihanoukville, the beautiful coastal city. Named after former king Norodom Sihanouk, the city of Sihanoukville is often a must-see destination in everyone's travel to Cambodia.
Here is an outstanding destination that you cannot miss when coming to Sihanoukville:
Swimming at Otres beach:
There are many beautiful beaches in this city. However, you won't be able to miss Otres Beach, the most famous landmark here. Visitors will absolutely love this place because of the strange beauty of the wild and peaceful beach. Otres Beach being the best for swimming. It also has much clearer water and a more relaxed setting than any beach in Sihanoukville, which is why it’s my favorite. The beach seems to stretch on forever, so finding your own quiet spot is easy. You should come here in the dry season because the sea is calm and the water is clear.
Admire the sunset in Independence
Independence is the best place to watch the sunset in Sihanoukville. Independence Harbor has a further protrusion into the sea, so visitors will move to the sea closer and watch the sun like a beautiful fireball. This stylish monument, erected in 1958, commemorates Cambodia’s independence from France in 1953. At 37 meters in height it stands in the center of a traffic circle where Norodom Blvd. crosses Sihanouk Blvd. It forms the center piece for various major celebrations throughout the year and at such times is decorated by many flowers. Getting close to the monument when celebrations are taking place is virtually impossible for understandable reasons of security. You can also watch the brilliant sunrise here, so don't forget to bring your virtual living equipment when you come. |

Relax on Monkey Island
Going to Sihanoukville without visiting the Cambodian tourist attractions around here is really a waste. Because the surrounding islands are as beautiful as Sihanoukville. Three islands that are popular with tourists from all over the world are Koh Rong, Koh Rong Samloem, and Koh Tang.
Koh Rong is a 45-minute boat ride from Sihanoukville. Legend has it that this island was once inhabited by a giant King Kong-like ape. If you don’t find this mythical creature, give up your search and spend some time on the beautiful beaches instead. Day trips cost approximately $20 USD and include lunch and snorkeling equipment.
Koh Rong Samloen is not inferior to Koh Rong in terms of beauty, but it is a wild and natural beauty. With a smaller area located to the south of Sihanoukville and with pristine beaches to the east, this place is a suitable place for many people to hide.
Koh Tang is the island farthest from Sihanoukville. The experience of spending the night on the train when coming here is also an interesting memory.
Enjoy delicious Cambodian specialties
Although not as crowded as other big cities, Sihanoukville gives visitors a completely different feeling at night. There are beachfront dining areas open until midnight, bars, and music playing all night.
After visiting the ancient palaces and temples, tourists come to Sihanoukville to find themselves a fresh and cool atmosphere of the sea. In the Western Quarter, entertainment activities take place from 9am to 2am the next day.
The high season in Cambodia is from November to April when temperatures are mild. This is the best time to visit Sihanoukville (and the coast in general) — the sunshine is constant and so are the blue skies. Daily highs are just under 30°C (90°F), and you’ll be able to enjoy a nice sea breeze on the beach. This is when most people visit, however, so be prepared for large crowds.
Sihanoukville is a safe place to backpack and travel — even if you’re traveling solo and even as a solo female traveler.
